In 1993, Renewal Unlimited secured
funding from a variety of sources to open the Family Resource Center
in Columbia County to provide education and resources to build and
strengthen healthy families.
The Family Resource Center is a place
where families can come to have fun, learn and grow. Many different
programs and activities are provided through the Family Resource
Center. All services are free and are provided in a warm friendly
environment. Staff are available to answer questions or provide
resources to help families with many of the issues we all face raising
children.

any family from pregnancy through the child's third year. Visits focus
on supporting new parents, understanding your child's development,
establishing healthy and positive routines, the use of discipline for
each stage of development, and taking care of yourself as an adult and a
parent. Our Family Resource Advocates will arrange visits that meet your
needs. We have a number of games, videos, and books available to help
you build a strong family.
3-5 Home Visiting Program
The Home Visiting Program is provided
through Head Start. Head Start is a federally funded program for income
eligible families with children ages 3-5. Families enrolled in Head
Start receive weekly home visits focusing on child and family
development issues.
Parenting Support Groups
All parents who would like the opportunity
to meet and exchange ideas and experiences with other parents are
encouraged to attend the Support Group. The group allows parents to take
time for themselves and offers support to help you maintain a healthy
family.
Parent Education
An 8 week group-based course, focusing on
things to expect as your child grows, how to improve family
relationships, and alternatives to physical and verbal punishments.
Parents will learn to communicate better, raise self-esteem and use
positive discipline techniques successfully. Both parents and children
participate in this course. Parents with children ages birth to five
years are sure to enjoy this program.
Mobile Resource Center
The Mobile Center is loaded with toys and
resources available for loan. The Mobile Center can make a scheduled

intended for the entire family. Family Night Out is a two hour evening

a meal, have fun with their children and have some adult time during
which child care is provided. Family Night Out runs in eight week
sessions, meeting one evening per week. There are two series per year.
Play Group
Weekly play groups for all families with
children ages birth to five provide a nurturing time for parents and
children to share art experiences, story time, singing, and free play.
